Appraisals

  • Bring your instrument and bow to the shop, and we will do our best to identify it and offer an approximate value. This process is often done same-day, but can vary depending on the history of the instrument in question.

This service is not offered remotely. It is not possible to give an opinion without physically seeing and handling the instrument, as descriptions and photos do not give enough information, and labels can often be inaccurate or deceptive. Additionally, value is derived from origin and condition, not sound, as tone is a matter of personal taste.

Please be aware that in some cases, despite extensive experience and a sizeable reference library, it is not always possible to be certain about origin and value.

  • Additional to all details of a verbal appraisal, this service is primarily intended to offer an appraisal sufficient for insurance purposes, complete with measurements, detailed description, and a statement of condition. You will most often be given a physical copy of your appraisal, as well as a digital version upon request.

When you purchase an instrument from us, a written appraisal will be provided free of charge for the instrument in question.
